First hand experience…

May 16, 2009

Although my finals were over Monday I just drove home today. Packing alone is not very much fun not to mention the unpacking which takes place at your destination. As the cars load increased until the ceiling constricted its height I began to realize I was going home, I was leaving. I found myself taking one last walk through my room to make sure I had al of my belongings. As I made my final walk down the third floor hallway I was looking at how and where the carpet was fading, may final descent out of Stoneridge hall via the elevator. I really took in everything around me creating images into memory.
After I left the dorm I said my goodbyes which are never fun. I know I will see everyone over summer but I am leaving them for now, we have no idea when we will reconvene. The drive towards the highway felt slower than usual, the traffic lights stayed red longer, the surrounding were appealing and asking to be remembered. I am not looking to give a journal entries description of my day but just a quick blurb.
Whenever you leave a place no matter if for a few days or a year, pay attention, look around and take in your surroundings. You could even catch yourself subconsciously thinking, taking in information from the environment that is so important in retaining memories. I left school today and although I am ready for summer and work, I left my other life behind me for a while. This time thought, I will return.

Greater Endeavors…

Water is fascinating. Water can be used as a way of transportation or even a place to float on a raft and relax. These rocks have had a hole eroded out of it from the water’s current. The sand and dirt that once was a part of the rock has left. It made its way via the tides and water molecules away from it’s source and out into the abis.

world_trade_center

This is the picture of the world trade center’s that were destroyed and turned to rubble in one of the most devestational days in American history. So many lives were lost and September 11, 2001 was the beginning to a long struggle for families who were effected by the terrorist. Following the whole event of the planes crashing into the world trade center there was more left behind than a large heap of rubble.

world-trade-center

The rubble left behind from the burning buildings, signifies more than the event itself. The rubble that is was left in the soot and smoke represents the people lost. So many families family members this heap of trash means a lot to them. Peoples lives were lost and left behind. So much was left behind following the after-mass of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Changes…

April 7, 2009

city

An empty subway station. See the stroller? The stroller has clearly been left behind. It is against the wall right next to the trash barrel. To me the barrel is not the focus. The station itself is extremely interesting. As you look at the picture eventually you realize that the station appears to have been left behind or for better words, abandoned. Like, what happened to this station? Why is no one in it? Was there a gas genocide or is it after the hours of operation?

Tricycles are typically associated with young children. This tricycle is not what you picture someone to be riding. There is a pretty good layer of rust covering all metal parts of the tric. The rust is a obvious indicator that the tric hasn’t been ridden in a while, long enough for the metal to oxidize. Just as the picture before I like to wonder what circumstances resulted in a rusted tricycle. For all we know a lil guy could have been kidnapped while going for a ride down the driveway. Maybe the child simply grew up and outgrew the tricycle.

Thinking about the Past…

March 31, 2009

Being left behind. Whether people or objects there is a story to tell about its past. This picture is of an old old stone which looks like a facial mask. Although I am not away of the actual meaning and theory behind this picture, I still find it intriguing. The stone mask clearly has been there for an extended period of time. There is a thin layer of moss that has grown over it and it is as thought he stone mask has been there as long as the stone wall has, although the wall has been there longer. The awesome part is we don’t really know what happened. A war could have broken out and everyone was forced to leave and this mask was not of immediate importance. The mask could of also been left there by a tribe, or group of people who placed it there, and purposely left it due to their own reasoning. I think it is extremely interesting to wonder and think about the stories behind things left behind.

This house was clearly left behind. The windows have all been broken and the grass hasn’t been cut in a long while. Houses are actually really interesting because they deteriorate over time as the environment around them changes. Whether the wood is rotted, windows are broken, or beams begin to sulk the houses form is changing. When you build houses you destroy a portion of the environment to make room for the structure. When houses are abandoned and left behind, the environment starts to take the area back over which entails destroying the house. I really enjoy looking at things that have been left behind and thinking about what the object or structure has went through in the part. I enjoy watching change and really dislike experiencing it to a degree.

The feelings inside…

March 24, 2009

toilet

In an instant you can be gone. The rug can be pulled out from under your feet leaving you free-falling into the ibis. This photo of toilet water on its way to the septic tank is in motion. The water was one stagnant and free. Once the hatch opened the fluid if forced through the whole leaving the toilet bowl. This is true for everything.

kw-lockness-leaving

The second picture is a sketch of the Lockness monster. This picture is much more literal the the other but you can clearly see that the green monster is leaving from one place and headed to another. There is just something about the moment of leaving that is not fun to experience but it is something that is reather interesting to look at and think about the feelings, sight, sounds, and the times you have left either for good or bad reasons.

Letting go

March 10, 2009

These are a few quotes I happen to fine interesting. All three quotes tie in together but are say completely different thing.

“True love doesn’t have a happy ending, because true love never ends. Letting go is one way of saying I love you.”
Adding on to my last post, sometimes you are not right for either the person you are with or even for a certain situation. No matter how much your inner feelings tell you you are doing the right thing, there are times when the right thing is actually your last option. If you truly love someone then maybe the best thing to do is let them go. Just because a situation may feel right for you, does not mean that your friend or significant other feels likewise. If you really “truly” care about someone but they do not feel for you the same way then the best thing to do is let them go. If allowing them not to be with you makes them happy and you truly care for them you will let her go.

“Remember me and smile, for it’s better to forget than remember me and cry.”
When a relationship ends or a close friend has fallen away from you, you need to think of all the positives that happened. Why dwell on the past? The key is to make the best of your situation. If you have memories that bring sad tears to your eyes then you mind as well forget all about the memories. No one wants to to remember them for the bad, everyone wants to be remembered for the positives, the impact they had on your life, and good times you shared together.

“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
This is such a powerful quote. Fate. Everything happens for a reason. You need to live life without regrets. When it’s over you need to know that it happened for a reason. Not everyone believes in fate but I do. For the most part no matter how good or bad of a decision we may make, we made it for a reason. Although you may regret a situation completely in every way shape and form. You will eventually look back and realize no matter how bad your regrets may be, they happened for a reason, and they impacted you in a positive way. In the end you need to keep your head up, smile on, and appreciate the events you have experienced throughout life.

Culmination

March 4, 2009

I decided to make this video to show one of my visions of leaving. This video can be interpreted in a variety of ways. One of the ways I think of it is, Jarad is a homicide detective who was killed in the line of duty while working on a case that he could not put behind him.

Homing in…

March 3, 2009

“Ever had a relationship end in such a way that you never saw it coming, but it was as if an avalanche had hit  you, or a firestorm had swept over you, leaving your charred body waiting for the next breeze to blow it into a little drift of ashes”

“A sad thing in life is that sometimes you meet someone who means a lot to you only to find out in the end that it was never bound to be and you just have to let it go”

In life, sometimes you get attached to people or even significant objects.  Maybe you are caught up on a specific place that you enjoy.  Nine times out of ten you will not have the luxury of what ever it is you are stuck on being there for you psychologicaly.  Sometimes you just need to let things go.

There are so many times I get myself stuck and I can not trip my mind or clear my head.  I’m known as someone who is always willing to help others.  Although I enjoy helping people I struggle with saying, no.  Sometimes there is too much on my plate and I end up with a headache of work.

I really pride myself on my time management skills even though I take a lot of heat for it as well.  Since high school I have made it a point to strive and really reach for the clouds.  Determined to do the the best I can and be successful at the same time.

Procrastination is one of my biggest pet peeves.  I rarely comit the horid sin, but I have the hardest time accepting that people can procrastinate and actually not care about their work.  Just the basic fact that they do not put time and effort into their work and actually feel good about what they do.

Since I am so disturbed by others procrastination habits, I realized that I cant let them bug me.  They are the only ones who are being effected by their lack of care.

Like I have learned sometimes no matter how attached you may be you just have to take a breath and let it go.

Artist’s Statement

February 22, 2009

Filming is something that really appeals to me.  Having the ability to put the camera in places out of the ordinary is fun.  Making something to show others is one of the best things about filming.  You can’t just pick up a camera and make a film that you are proud of.  Filming takes time.

Being able to tell a story through the lens of the camera is what it’s all about.  I mostly enjoy editing but in order to edit you need video first.  Although it takes talent to use a camera you also need to carry the ability to edit your footage together.  You don’t throw stuff together and make it look good.  You have to think and be able to explain why everything ends up the way it does.

Making films is fun but my real passion is to mess around and try and create something new that also looks semi-professional.  I really like to work with others and throw together our ideas to get a solid product.  I express my emotions through music and enjoy incorporating it into my work.  Although it is not completely legal to incorporate copy write music into videos, I enjoy editing personal projects to music.

Film is a form of art where you can be extremely creative using both audio and video to tell or show a story.

Inseparable

February 22, 2009

http://www.imdb.com/video/wab/vi62915353/

Inseparable is a short film about a father, Joe, who finds out he is dying and decided to give a drifter named Charlie a second chance. I really like how the filmmaker tells the story through the camera lens. The main point of the film is that Joe is leaving his family which consists of his wife and son. When Joe leaves his house for the last time before the doctor tells him he is dying. Charlie receives a call for Joe and then the transformation begins. Charlie shaved and cleans himself up and then he and Joe switch clothes. Joe eventually walks away and Charlie heads to his new home to see his (wife and kid). The whole story is really catchy but the way the shots are arranged and how the little bit of audio is used makes at an extremely effective piece.

People leave their families all over the world on a daily basis. People leave one place and go to another continuously throughout life. Everyone has experienced leaving in both good and bad situation. The director decided to portray leaving through this dad Joe in his situation where he finds out he is dying and doesn’t want his family to suffer so he walks away and has Charlie replace is person.
